Maudie Leads Irish Film and Television Awards With 6 Nominations

Sony Pictures Ireland are delighted to announce Aisling Walsh’s Maudie, starring Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke, has been nominated for 6 Irish Film and Television Academy Awards 2018.

Maudie, based on the true story of folk artist Maud Lewis (Sally Hawkins) follows the unlikely romance between Maud and a hardened reclusive bachelor, Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke).

Speaking of his nomination for Best International Actor, Ethan Hawke said:

“Everyone knows the Irish have the best taste in the Arts – especially acting. So, this nomination is a secret plume I will wear in my hat till the day I die. I am so grateful to my director Aisling Walsh and to the great light of Sally Hawkins.”

Now in its 15th year, the Irish Film and Television Academy Awards celebrates the best in Irish Film and TV from the past 12 months. Maudie leads the way this year with 6 nominations including Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best International Actor (Ethan Hawke), Best International Actress (Sally Hawkins), Production Design (John Hand) and Sound (Marco Dölle, Steve Munro and Garret Farrell).

Aisling Walsh, nominated for Best Director said:

“Thank you to the Irish Academy for recognising Maudie with 6 nominations. All 6 of them are very special indeed. I am honoured to be nominated alongside such great talent and delighted for everyone that worked so hard and tirelessly on the film. I am particularly delighted for Sally Hawkins and for Ethan Hawke who is IFTA nominated for the first time. Their performances in Maudie are exquisite. It is another great year for Irish film nationally and internationally and I am very proud to be a part of such a vibrant and wonderful industry.”

Maudie was produced by Susan Mullen of Dublin-based Parallel Films, along with Canadian producers Rink Rat Productions and Screen Door, with the support of the Irish Film Board, Telefilm Canada and the Newfoundland & Labrador Film Development Corporation.

The Irish Film and Television Academy Awards 2018 take place in Dublin on February 15th.
